Rest of the Vocab 11-20... Spanish Exploration FunSheet- Creative Time

Conquistadors- expedition leaders sent by the Spanish government to the New World who ended up conquering the native people like: Aztecs, Incas,

Hispanola- islands in the Caribbean known today as Haiti and the Dominica Republic. Columbus set foot on these islands 1493

Hacienda- slave house for the native Indians- forced to farm and give up their way of life- religion

Bartolome de las Casas- a famous priest that wrote against the enslavement of native Indians

Spanish Armada- famous navy battle between Spain and England in 1588- fought over GOLD, GOD, AND GLORY

penal colony- USA and Australia - a place where governments send their criminals to get them away

Triangle Trade- the 317 year trading process for manufactured goods for Africans. Sugar grown in the Caribbean by slaves, traded for guns in Europe, to trade guns for  more slaves in Africa.

Middle Passage-  the 3 month passage from Africa to the New World. They were chained sitting or laying down.

indentured servants- Europeans who choose to become a servant for a boat ride to the New World. Usually lasted 7-8 years.
